The day started overcast and very humid, with a steady breeze at Don's back. We are now in East Texas, and the flowers alongside the roadside were out in full bloom. What a vast difference over just a few days ago in West and Central Texas.
Along with the beauty of the natural landscape, we also began to notice the more unattractive but important features in this area.
Today's ride was really enjoyable, and we made such good progress Don went further than originally planned. While Penny was waiting for him at the end of the day, a man driving a VW Beetle drew up along side her. He initially thought there was a problem, and being a Texan, he stopped to offer assistance. It turned out he saw the YoungLife signs on the car and was curious about the trip. In fact he was a former YL staff member and happened to know very well the family with whom we were to spent the next two nights. We continually are made aware of just how large and far-reaching the Young Life organization is.
Our stopping point for the next two nights was in College Station, TX at the home of Gerald and Donna Garcia, and their daughter Becca. Gerald is on Young Life staff in charge of developing and expanding the Hispanic ministry. We immediately felt at home as they extended a wonderful and warm welcome. Incidentally, they share their home with various YL college students. That evening we met other YL committee members around their table as we enjoyed a splendid meal prepared by Donna.Fortunately, we will be spending a rest day tomorrow and a second night here with the Garcias.
Yours very comfortably on the Road,
Don and Penny

4!0 As I read your updates the shear magnitude of this undertaking becomes clearer. I am in awe. I look forward to each update and I am anxious to hear your stories, in person, when you return to the land of the red rocks.

I got back from Europe this week and got caught up on your trip. So far so good. 1/2 way there. Impressive, but I wouldn't think anything less out of you. I'm ready for another R2R2R next may, so prepare. Penny, all I can say is what a great wife. Take care and keep on blogging.
