Day 14 Wednesday April 1: Sierra Blanca, TX to Alpine, TX

Miles Today: 132 Total Miles: 1098 Terrain: Flat
Temp: 50-66 f. Time: 9 1/2 hrs

Packing up for the day's ride, a stray dog adopted Don!

Like yesterday, the wind was again strongly at Don's back. The road was virtually flat all the way. With the strength of the wind, this high mileage day was a lot easier than it sounds! A couple of brief sand storms were encountered en route just past the town of Van Horne, causing us to readjust roof baggage and fixing a bandanna over Don's mouth and nose.

Approaching Sand Storm

Onward to Alpine, where we will be guests of Liz in her beautiful and comfortable home. As directed, we let ourselves in and showered while she was finishing at work and Yoga. Liz is a Federal Defender with the US Justice Department. Dinner was at the local Italian restaurant, where we had a lively time discussing views on politics, the economy, and social issues. Liz, we really enjoyed our time with you, not only the wonderful warm welcome, but a very good dinner and breakfast too. Thank you so much.

Liz's Home in Alpine, Texas

Tomorrow we are off to Sanderson, TX, 84 miles away, where we will yet again be guests of Liz at her "holiday home".

Yours on the Road,

Don and Penny
